Roller door motors do a lot of quiet work, and they do not last forever. Our team completed a roller door motor replacement in Boondall on a residential roller door. The curtain and guides were in good order, so we focused on the motor alone.
Replacing a roller door motor takes more than swapping a box on the drum. The new unit has to suit the weight of the door and the size of the drum. Limits need setting so the curtain stops in the right place at both ends. Force settings matter too, because a motor set too strong will not back off when something blocks the door.
First, we disconnected power and removed the old motor from the drum. Then we mounted the new Superlift unit and connected it to the door. Next, we set the open and close limits so the curtain finished flush at the floor. We also set the force so the door reverses when it meets an obstruction.
Once the settings were in, we ran the door through several full open and close cycles. We tested the manual release so the owner can still open the door during a power cut. We also paired the remotes and checked they worked from the driveway. We carried out a safety inspection to make sure everything was working properly.
A motor that hesitates, runs noisily, or stops part way is usually telling you something. Book a check before it stops altogether and leaves you shifting a heavy door by hand.
