Springs and cables wear on the same clock, so they usually need replacing together. Our team carried out a garage door spring replacement in Ellenbrook after the owner reported a heavy, sluggish door. A closer look showed frayed cables on both drums. The springs had also lost the tension the door relied on.
A frayed cable is a warning you can actually see. Broken strands mean the cable carries less load than it should. Once it lets go, the door drops on one side and can pull off its track. Tired springs make that worse, because the opener then lifts weight the springs should be holding. As a result, the whole system runs under strain on every cycle.
First, we clamped the door and released the spring tension so we could work safely. Then we removed the old springs and both cables. Next, we fitted new springs and wound them to the correct tension for this door. We also fitted new cables and spooled them evenly onto the drums. Cables and springs work as a set, so replacing them together avoids a second callout later.
Once everything sat in place, we rebalanced the door and tested it by hand with the opener disconnected. It held position through its travel and moved evenly on both sides. We then ran it through several full cycles under power. We carried out a safety inspection to make sure everything was working properly.
